Sources & methodology

The sources we aim to use

  • Health information: clinical and public-health organisations, such as hospital and national health-service pages, rather than blogs or product marketing.
  • Fit and sizing: published fitting guides from brands and specialist fitters. These describe that brand's own sizing, so we treat them as examples, not universal rules.
  • Fabrics and care: textile references and garment care-labelling conventions.

Each guide lists the external pages it references in a "Sources and further reading" section.

How we check claims

In October 2026 we rewrote every guide imported from the previous US Hosiery website. Each factual claim now links to its source in the sentence where it appears, and we read the linked page to confirm it supports that statement. Where we couldn't find a reliable source, we removed the claim. Some fit and sizing points cite retailer or brand guides; we use those only for how that sizing works, not for health statements. Practical try-on suggestions without a source are written as things to try, not facts. See our editorial policy.

Researched comparisons, not product reviews

When a guide compares styles, fabrics or features, the comparison is based on published sources and on how garments are constructed. We haven't worn or tested products, so we don't rank brands or describe products as tested, reviewed or "best". A hands-on review would tell you how one product performed for one tester; our guides instead explain what to check so you can judge any product yourself.

Sizing data

We don't publish a universal size-conversion table. Where we show conversions, they come from a named brand's published chart, checked on a stated date, and we say that other brands may differ. Brand charts describe that brand's own sizing only. Read more in why the same bra size can mean different things.

Our tools

  • The inch ↔ cm converter uses the exact definition 1 inch = 2.54 cm.
  • The fit checklist maps common symptoms to common fit causes; it can't diagnose.
  • Nothing you enter into a tool is sent to us or stored.

What we don't do

  • We don't claim hands-on product testing, lab testing or expert review that hasn't happened.
  • We don't publish invented statistics, reviews or reader numbers.
